National Intern Day 2024

As an architectural summer intern at Vessel, my experiences have been nothing short of transformative. Coming into this internship, I was eager to learn, but I never anticipated the level of involvement and the breadth of experiences I would encounter. The projects I’ve had the privilege to work on – First Capitol Place, The Journey West County, and two senior living projects – have each contributed uniquely to my growth and understanding of architecture.

One of my favorite aspects of this summer have been the site visits and client meetings, particularly with The Journey West County. Being involved in this project allowed me to make impactful interior design decisions, a responsibility that both challenged and excited me. It’s one thing to work on designs in the office, but witnessing the progress and contributing to the discussions on-site has been an invaluable learning experience.

Working on First Capitol Place has been another highlight of my internship. This project has offered me a comprehensive view of the architectural process. I’ve had the opportunity to work on numerous parts of the project within Revit. My involvement has been extensive, allowing me to understand the project intimately and contribute meaningfully. This diverse scope of work has not only honed my technical skills but also given me a deep appreciation for the collaborative effort required to for such a project.

What truly sets Vessel apart is its culture. From the moment I joined, I felt like a valued member of the team. The support and mentorship from my colleagues have been phenomenal. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming, creating an environment that makes coming to work enjoyable and motivating. The inclusive atmosphere at Vessel has allowed me to actively participate in project decisions and contribute to various aspects of the projects I’ve worked on.

Despite the short duration of my internship, I’ve had the opportunity to touch four different projects. This variety has been instrumental in broadening my perspective and enhancing my adaptability as an aspiring architect. Each project has presented its unique challenges and learning opportunities, allowing me to grow both professionally and personally.

The combination of hands-on project involvement, the supportive culture, and the diverse range of projects has made this internship incredibly rewarding. As I continue my journey in architecture, I will carry the lessons and experiences from this summer with me, confident in the impact I’ve made and inspired by the possibilities ahead.
