Demo Day at the First Capitol Site
Demolition has begun on the former bank building on the site of First Capitol Place. This is the first step as we prepare for groundbreaking and construction. This innovative development pays homage to the 250-year legacy of the region, blending the past with a forward-looking architectural perspective.
“Today is an exciting day for Saint Charles as the first step in this new development takes place. First Capitol Place will enhance the corridor leading into the Historic District and provide luxury apartment living that is needed in our area. We look forward to the groundbreaking, construction, and transformation of this area in the months to come,” said City of Saint Charles Mayor Dan Borgmeyer.
First Capitol Place represents a balance between authenticity and innovation, capturing the essence of Saint Charles' historical character. Inspired by the city's heritage, from the explorations of Lewis and Clark to the establishment of the first Capitol and the bustling steel mills, the project transforms these historical elements into a modern architectural endeavor. The design of First Capitol Place is crafted to offer more than just living spaces; it provides a community where residents can enjoy a range of amenities designed for modern living. These include a community room, a pet wash station, and a rooftop deck featuring pickleball courts, a state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor fitness center, grilling stations, and fire pits, all while providing breathtaking views of Historic Main Street and the Missouri River.
"Our team at Saint Charles Strategic Development is deeply appreciative of all the support that we have received from the community in the City of St. Charles. We spent over a year of research designing this building with a focus on honoring and emulating the Historic District. We are working as a collective team to create a development that betters the city and broader county for years to come! We are looking forward to this being the first of many projects within the Historic District," said Robert Mangelsdorf, Principal Partner at St. Charles Strategic Development.
Here at Vessel, we are looking forward to continuing to push the design and drawings forward, but this day marked a fun and exciting milestone in the life of the project.
