Dorcas Hakiza
Design Professional
Growing up, Dorcas was creative and would always try to come up with easier ways to accomplish tasks. She was also always imagining how spaces she was in could be better or feel different. It was not until her senior year of high school that she connected her desire to create with a potential path in architecture. After five years of architecture school, she was able to further and better define her passion for design and how she could use her learned skills to be of service to society. She says, “I love thinking of the cultural context of places and the potential impact a design decision might have. I love to be able to use design to inspire, motivate, and dignify, and I am always excited to learn new things.”
Outside of work, Dorcas finds joy in most creative things including cooking, writing, poetry, languages, water coloring, and woodworking. She also enjoys traveling and learning the history of places and cultures. She has lived between Michigan and Texas, Kenya, and DRC Congo where she is from, and she hopes to add to the list!
