A Father's Day Memory
So many of my fellow architects and I swear that we were bit by the “architecture bug” very early on. I must have been all of 7, watching a movie with my dad (the title escapes me). A group of architects were deliberating over a large architectural model. I looked up at my dad asking, “What is that?” He explained that architects build models to show their clients an example of the finished building. My immediate response…”I wanna do that!”
Throughout the years, my dad and I have never stopped doing house projects together. From projects in my childhood home, to college dorm rooms, to apartments in grad school and after, my homes have always had some sort of daddy-daughter designed upgrade. Now I have my very own home, and I’m happy to say that the projects continue! I am still the “helper” in many ways, but I think my dad would agree that with a degree in architecture and several years of projects behind me, I am much more helpful. More importantly, the time spent together….the life lessons….the advice….the fun and camaraderie….those memories have an indelible place in my mind and my heart.
Happy Father’s Day, Dad! Today and always, I love you and appreciate you!
