Holton Hooker Center/Grand Valley State University | Mackey Mitchell Architects

This building sits on a very tight site at the top of hill on campus with views over a nearby wooded revive that is filled with hiking trails and outdoor amenities. The large building is planned as skewed H scheme that minimizes the lengths of uninterrupted walls and helps shorten the perceived length of internal corridors.

One courtyard is more public in that it is adjacent to the main pedestrian spine of campus, while the other is purposely isolated and oriented toward the views, giving the building residents a sense of privacy and community. Five classrooms, two computer labs, a multi-purpose room and an Einsteins bagels, make up the non residential portion of the program.
